What are the nine Essential Skills? The Government of Canada has identified nine key Essential Skills for the workplace.

  • Writing
  • Thinking
  • Document Use
  • Digital Skills

These skills are “essential” because they are foundational skills.   We all have different levels of skills in each of these areas, and through training and experience we can improve our skills to meet the needs of our current or future job.
